Breathing Styles Tier List

Breathing Styles are the core combat identity for Slayer characters in Project Slayers 2. Each style brings its own forms, pacing, and preferred range. This page ranks the launch roster using community consensus from the first week after release (mid-September 2026). Letter grades will move when balance patches land—bookmark the Tier List hub and re-check after hotfixes.

If you have not picked a faction yet, skim Blood Demon Arts too, then lock a plan on Best Builds. New accounts should also clear early goals in Getting Started and claim Codes before burning materials on a style you might replace.

Launch roster

The eight styles named most consistently at launch are:

Thunder, Water, Flame, Wind, Sound, Serpent (also called Snake in some guides), Insect, and Stone.

Sun and Mist remain the fantasy picks players ask about most, but they are not treated as ranked launch styles here until the live client clearly ships them. Part 1 options such as Snow Breathing belong to legacy Project Slayers Update 1.5 discussions—do not assume those trainers or materials transfer cleanly into Slayers 2.

How unlocks usually work

Community guides converge on a mid-game unlock gate around level 25, plus materials such as Wen, Demon Horns, and Beast Cores, often tied to a trainer NPC. Exact counts and quest names can differ after patches, so confirm the requirement UI in your server before farming. Do not dump every Beast Core into a style you only want for fashion—mastery time is real.

Clan synergy matters: Rengoku elevates Flame, Water-leaning clans elevate Water, and mobility clans pair well with Thunder or Sound. Check the Clans tier list before you reroll.

Community consensus tier list (launch week)

S tier — Thunder, Sound, Flame

Thunder Breathing is the most repeated PvP king in early rankings. Instant-feeling gap closers and hard-to-react tools make it oppressive in duels while still clearing PvE cleanly. If you want one style that “just works” when fights get sweaty, Thunder is the default recommendation across many creators.

Sound Breathing brings explosive combo extensions, strong projectiles, and team-friendly holds that keep dungeon packs glued for allies. It is frequently listed beside Thunder for overall value and is a top PvE conversation piece.

Flame Breathing lands in S on this wiki’s consensus table even though some creators park it in high A or situational B for PvP. The reason: Flame’s AoE, burn pressure, and Rengoku clan pairing produce excellent farm and boss value during launch week. If your PvP ladder experience feels sluggish, keep Flame for PvE and consider Thunder for duel queues instead of abandoning the kit entirely.

A tier — Water, Serpent, Insect

Water Breathing is the standout beginner A pick. Animations and route clarity feel approachable, several clans buff Water specifically, and it teaches spacing without demanding perfect Thunder timing. Some hardcore PvP lists underrate Water in week one; treat those takes as skill-ceiling arguments, not a reason to panic-reroll a fresh account.

Serpent Breathing (Snake) wins praise for teleport-style mobility, knock-ups, and barrage damage that translates to both modes. It is a favorite when players want flashy combo routes without committing to Thunder’s entire identity.

Insect Breathing rewards fast chains and poison-flavored pressure. It sits comfortably in A for players who like close-range follow-ups and aerial confirms. Pairing notes often mention Kocho-style clan fantasies even when exact passive names differ by patch notes.

B tier — Stone

Stone Breathing is the textbook B specialist: heavy hyper armor, aggressive forward pressure, and strong duel presence when you can plant your feet. It loses points for general farming flexibility and for losing races to faster S-tier start-ups. Pick Stone if you love the armored brawler fantasy—not because a tier list told you to force it on every account.

Situational — Wind

Wind Breathing is the most disputed launch style. Some early lists celebrate launchers and flexible range; others punish slow start-up and awkward enemy displacement in PvE. This page keeps Wind unranked / situational rather than inventing a false consensus. If Wind is already your clan fantasy, play it and revisit after the first balance patch instead of doom-rerolling.

Building around a style

  1. Confirm faction (Slayer) and your current clan.
  2. Unlock the style only when materials are ready—see Guides for farming routes as they are published.
  3. Match weapons and traversal habits to the style’s range (do not force a slow heavy weapon into a dash-heavy Thunder plan without testing).
  4. Convert the pick into a full loadout on Best Builds and track progress from the Players hub.

Common mistakes

  • Chasing every YouTube S list blindly. Creators disagree on Flame, Water, and Wind. Use this page’s consensus bands, then trust your own reps.
  • Ignoring clan passives. A mid-tier style with matching clan bonuses often beats an orphaned S style.
  • Spending Beast Cores too early. Hit the level and Wen gates first; cores are progression currency, not confetti.
  • Mixing Part 1 Snow guides into Slayers 2. Legacy Update 1.5 content is historical context, not a drop-in unlock path.

Master one style deeply before you collect the whole roster. Launch-week power is real, but clean execution still beats a neglected S label.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What are the best Breathing Styles in Slayers 2 right now?

Launch-week community consensus most often places Thunder, Sound, and Flame in S, with Water, Serpent, and Insect in A. Stone is commonly B. Wind remains situational depending on the source.

When do I unlock Breathing Styles?

Most guides point to roughly level 25 plus Wen, Demon Horns, and Beast Cores, usually through a trainer flow. Always verify the live requirement panel before farming.

Is Water Breathing bad because some PvP lists rank it low?

No. Water is a strong beginner A pick with approachable tools and clan synergy. Low PvP placements often reflect animation timing, not a broken beginner path.

Is Serpent the same as Snake Breathing?

Yes in practical terms—community guides use both names for the same launch style. This wiki defaults to Serpent while noting Snake as an alternate label.

Should I unlock Thunder even if my clan buffs Flame?

If you mainly farm PvE, keep Flame and lean into the clan bonus. Grab Thunder later if you climb duel ladders. Synergy usually beats collecting every S name immediately.
